KMS Fighting Saints Faces Setback in Hot Contest Against Benson
The KMS Fighting Saints 8th grade team faced a challenging football contest against the Benson Braves on September 23, 2025, as part of their regular season schedule. The game, held in Benson under hot and sunny conditions, saw the Fighting Saints fall 14-22 despite a strong effort. The first half concluded with the Fighting Saints trailing the Braves with a score of 8-14. Key players for KMS included James Collins, who demonstrated exceptional skill both offensively and defensively. Collins caught a 35-yard pass for a touchdown from quarterback Eli Finstrom and later added a 4-yard rushing touchdown. Additionally, Jonathan Molenaar contributed with a two-point conversion rush. Damien Bratsch’s fumble recovery was another highlight, showcasing the team's defensive resilience. Coach Brady DeBaere praised the team's performance, particularly highlighting Collins' overall impact on the game. "The team battled. James Collins played a great game. He had two great tackles for loss and chased down the ball carrier from behind on a big run. He also scored two touchdowns," said Coach DeBaere. Looking ahead, the KMS Fighting Saints are set to compete next on September 27 in Redwood, where they will face teams from New Ulm, Redwood Valley, and Worthington. Despite the current season record of 0-5, the team remains determined to turn their fortunes around in upcoming games.
