KMS Fighting Saints Fall to Minnewaska Lakers in Basketball Season Debut

In their opening game of the regular basketball season, the KMS Schools' varsity boys basketball team faced a challenging matchup against the Minnewaska Lakers at KMS High School on December 3, 2024. Despite a spirited effort, the Fighting Saints concluded the game with a 56-76 loss. The first half was tightly contested, with KMS trailing by a narrow five-point margin at halftime, the scoreboard reading KMS 36, Minnewaska 41. However, the Lakers surged ahead in the second half, primarily due to a significant run that overwhelmed the Saints. According to the post-game reviews, this surge combined with excessive turnovers by KMS, sealed the deal for Minnewaska. KMS showcased promising performances from several players. Teagen Diederich and Hunter Engelke led the team's scoring, each contributing 12 points. Engelke, along with Gavin Mulder, also grabbed 7 rebounds each, highlighting their all-round contributions. Kody Tolefsrud added 3 assists to the team's efforts. Coach Fragodt provided his insights after the game, expressing pride in the team's performance despite the results. "We are a young team with not much Varsity experience," Coach Fragodt said. He emphasized the importance of learning from each game to improve. "I thought we did a lot of good things throughout the night. I told the guys that we need to learn from every game and get better every game. I was proud of our effort the whole night." Looking ahead, the Fighting Saints are set to face the MACCRAY Wolverines on December 9, 2024, at MACCRAY. The team seeks to rectify the missteps from their season opener and notch their first win of the season. Their current record stands at 0-1.
