KMS Fighting Saints Fall to Panthers in a Challenging Volleyball Encounter
In a gripping varsity volleyball showdown on September 26, 2024, the KMS Fighting Saints were defeated by the Tracy Milroy Balaton Panthers with a final score of 1-3 at their home court. Despite a strong start, the Fighting Saints couldn't maintain their initial momentum through the subsequent sets.
The Fighting Saints kicked off the match with an impressive first set, besting the Panthers 25-16. However, the Panthers quickly turned the tables, capturing the next three sets (25-16, 25-12, 25-17) to seal the victory. The shift in the game's tide came after a challenging moment when Maddie Silas, a key player for the Saints, had to leave the court due to an ankle injury.
Top performers for the Saints included Maddie Luft, who led with 14 kills and also contributed a block. Lily Winter added 7 kills and Acelyn Hacker contributed 6. On the defensive front, Abby Holtkamp made 24 digs, closely followed by Emily Wagner with 20 and Leah Wagner with 17. In terms of assists, Ava Noble set up 18 plays, while Leah Wagner added 8 assists.
Special recognition was given to Kaliyah Walker for her critical play in the fourth set, earning a kill that mirrored strategic insights from the team's coaches. Emily Wagner and Ava Noble each marked the score sheet with an ace.
Reflecting on the match, Coach Ruf expressed concerns over the team's coordination following Silas's injury. "We couldn’t get on the same page after Maddie Silas went out with an ankle injury," stated Coach Ruf.
The Fighting Saints are looking forward to their next game on October 1, 2024, against CMCS at KMS High School, as they aim to improve their current season record of 2-12 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The team remains hopeful as they prepare to face their upcoming challenge.
