KMS Fighting Saints Football Scrimmage Wrap-Up: Insights from Dawson-Boyd Clash
On August 27, 2024, the KMS Fighting Saints junior high football teams, comprising of 7th and 8th graders, participated in a pre-season scrimmage against the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks at Dawson-Boyd. Despite the Fighting Saints' commendable efforts and a standout play from Hayden Duke, they fell short against the formidable Blackjacks. Both KMS 7th and 8th-grade teams showed promise, but it was Dawson-Boyd who clinched the victories, with final scores of 14-0 for the 7th grade and 20-8 for the 8th grade. The KMS 8th-grade team showcased potential with Hayden Duke making a remarkable 40-yard rush to score a touchdown, followed by a successful 2-point conversion pass from Rex Nelson to Duke. Additionally, Henry Luft contributed significantly by securing an interception, a defensive highlight for the Saints. In his post-game comments, Coach DeBaere reflected on the performance: "Both 7th and 8th grade played well. We will look for areas to improve on for our first game." This reflective perspective underscores the developmental focus of the scrimmage games as learning opportunities. Looking ahead, the Fighting Saints are set to face Montevideo on September 5, 2024, in their first official game of the season at Murdock. As this initial skirmish has helped identify potential areas for growth, anticipation is building for what the Saints will bring to their upcoming encounter.
