KMS Fighting Saints JV Secures 2nd Place at Underwood Tournament

In an impressive showing by KMS Schools' Junior Varsity volleyball team, the Fighting Saints claimed second place at the Underwood Tournament held on October 17, 2024. The tournament, hosted by Underwood High School, featured intense competition from teams like Wheaton Heron Norcross (WHN) Warriors, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (CGB) Wolverines, Sebeka Trojans, and Roseau Rams. The Fighting Saints underwent a robust match lineup, emerging victorious against WHN with a score of 2-1 and sweeping both the CGB Wolverines and the Sebeka Trojans with scores of 2-0. Their only defeat came at the hands of the Roseau Rams, who managed to outplay KMS with a score of 2-0 in the championship round. Despite the loss, the team's effort was enough to secure a commendable second place in the tournament. Acelynn Hacker, Taylor VanHeuveln, and Kayleigh Finstrom led the team with the highest kills, contributing significantly to the day's success. Noteworthy contributions also came from Kayleigh Finstrom, Emma Gareis, and Avery Magaard, who topped the charts with blocks. On the defensive end, Emily Holtkamp and Avery Magaard excelled in digs, with pivotal aces scored by Avery Magaard, Emily Holtkamp, and Acelynn Hacker. Teamwork was a centerpiece for success with valuable assists from Hope Steinhart and Lily Kolling. Coach Carlson expressed immense pride in the team's performance: "I am very proud of the girls for their efforts today. We played well and consistent to finish out our season. In the game vs Sebeka, we came out on top after struggling to find our rhythm in the first set. We fought back and won and then finished the game to make it to the championship against Roseau. We lost a couple of tight games but I am very proud of the girls." The KMS Fighting Saints' performance throughout the tournament showcased their skill and determination, indicating strong prospects for the team’s future competitions.
