KMS Fighting Saints Narrowly Fall to CMCS Bluejays in a Tightly Contested Volleyball Encounter

In a close match up, the KMS Fighting Saints faced a tough challenge against the CMCS Bluejays on Tuesday, October 2, at home. KMS eventually fell 1-2 in sets. Despite a strong performance which showcased significant improvements, the Fighting Saints couldn't capitalize in the final set, ending with set scores of 22-25, 25-21, and 10-15. The night was filled with outstanding personal performances, with players from both teams demonstrating skill and determination. For the Fighting Saints, Vanessa Olson, Avea Finstrom, and Makenna Grothe led the charge with significant kills, contributing crucial points throughout the contest. Finstrom, along with LessiAnn Van Heuveln and Grothe, also mounted a strong defense at the net with several key blocks. Diving and saving were the themes on the defensive end as Ira Gareis, Juliet Herrera, Vanessa Olson, and Makenna Grothe all showcased their agility with vital digs. Grothe, along with Hope Steinert and Finstrom, served aces that kept the Bluejays on their toes. The assist column was dominated by Steinert, who facilitated many of the points scored by KMS during the match. The night was not just about scoring but also strategic gameplays and resilience. According to Coach Gjerde, the team showed considerable progress. "Lots of great swings by our hitters and touches on hard-hit balls showcased our improving defense. Our serve receive has been very strong and the third set saw us battle back hard," she commented, adding a motivational note, "Find a way." Despite the loss, the Fighting Saints are looking forward to their next game against the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks on October 3, 2024, at Kerkhoven. The team's current record stands at 6-5, reflecting a season of fierce competition and significant growth. As the season heads into its final stages, the spirit at KMS remains high, with the entire team eager to continue their upward trajectory in the remaining games.
