KMS Fighting Saints Secure First Season Victory Against Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks
In an impressive display of teamwork and strategy, the KMS Fighting Saints' C Squad basketball team clinched their first win of the regular season, defeating the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks with a decisive 39-13 on December 2, 2024, at the opponents' court in Dawson-Boyd.
The game opened with the Saints taking an early lead, setting the tone with a halftime score of 24-6. They maintained their dominance throughout, closing the encounter with a strong finish. Top scorers for the Saints were Avea Finstrom with 12 points, followed by Kenzie Danielson with 9, and both Vanessa Olson and Brooke Johnson contributing 8 points each. Tegan Sobkowiak also added 2 points to the team's tally.
Defensively, the team was equally formidable. Avea Finstrom showcased her skills not only in scoring but also in defense with 2 critical blocks. Collective team effort in steals was noted as Brooke, Avea, Vanessa, Emily, and Tegan each took two steals, contributing significantly to the team's defensive success.
Reflecting on the team's performance, Avea Finstrom emphasized the unity within the squad, stating, 'Team chemistry is high.' Coach Gjerde expressed satisfaction with the team's progress, remarking, 'Got our first win under our belt. Time to continue to build.'
Looking ahead, the Fighting Saints are set to host the MACCRAY Wolverines at KMS High School on December 5, 2024, as they aim to build on their current 1-1 season record.
