KMS Fighting Saints Secure Thrilling Victory over Litchfield Dragons in Nail-Biting Volleyball Contest
In a dramatic turn of events, the KMS Fighting Saints varsity volleyball team clinched a hard-fought victory against the Litchfield Dragons on August 29 at the KMS high school. The thrilling match, marked by intense rallies and strategic plays, culminated in a 3-2 win for the Saints, setting a promising tone for their season. The match started off challenging for the Saints as they dropped the first set 19-25. However, they quickly regrouped and fought back to take the next two sets 25-20 and 25-18. The fourth set saw the Dragons claw back with a 25-20 win, pushing the contest to a decisive fifth set. In a display of resilience, the KMS team overturned a 6-11 deficit in the final set to emerge victorious with a close 15-13 score. Key players such as Emily Wagner, Savannah Petersen, and Maddie Luft significantly contributed to the team's success, especially in critical moments. Luft and Petersen were also standout performers in blocks alongside Madison Silas, while Abby Holtkamp, Emily Wagner, and Leah Wagner were pivotal in defense with crucial digs. Notably, Tayler Van Heuveln and Acelynn Hacker stepped up under pressure in the final game, adding depth to the team's performance. Coach Ruf commended the team's effort, emphasizing the strategic execution and mental toughness. "We have been working on finishing a game strong and we succeeded that tonight by coming back from being down. This was a team effort by the bench being loud on where the hits were coming from and then the girls on the court taking control of the ball. Great night!" reflected Ruf. The KMS Fighting Saints, now standing at 1-5 overall, look to carry this momentum into their next match against the BBE Jaguars on September 3, hosted at Brooten Elementary.
