KMS Fighting Saints Secure Victory Against Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles in Basketball Season Opener
In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, the KMS Fighting Saints varsity basketball team clinched their first win of the regular season, defeating the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles with a decisive 71-55 scoreline on November 25, 2024, at KMS High School.
The game kicked off with intense action as the Fighting Saints demonstrated their prowess, leading 37-24 by halftime. By maintaining a robust defense and executing a series of strategic plays, KMS managed to extend their lead and secure the victory. Acelynn Hacker led the scoring with an impressive 25 points, followed closely by Emily Wagner, who contributed 18 points, greatly impacting the game's outcome.
Aside from the top scorers, Leah Wagner and Mamie Luft were instrumental in strengthening the team's defense, with Leah achieving 10 steals and Mamie adding another 7. Their defensive skills were crucial in keeping the Eagles at bay throughout the game.
Reflecting on the victory, Coach Johnson remarked, "We hit some timely shots in the second half every we needed to keep them at arms distance." This strategic focus helped KMS start their season on a high note and sets a positive tone for their upcoming challenges.
The Fighting Saints are now preparing to face the Dawson Boyd Blackjacks in their next regular season game, scheduled for December 2, 2024, at Dawson Boyd. With a current record of 1-0, KMS is looking forward to building on their successful start and continuing their pursuit of excellence in the season ahead.
