KMS Fighting Saints Volleyball Narrowly Defeated by LQPV Eagles in a Thrilling Five-Set Duel
In a high-stakes volleyball confrontation on September 5, 2024, the KMS Fighting Saints varsity team faced a tough challenge against the Lac qui Parle Valley (LQPV) Eagles at LQPV High School, ultimately succumbing in a closely contested five-set duel, closing out with scores of 2-3 in favor of the Eagles. The game opened with the Fighting Saints asserting dominance with a solid 25-16 win in the first set. However, the Eagles answered back in the second set, leveling the score with a 25-13 win. The third set saw the Eagles taking a lead with a 25-20 score, pushing the Saints to the brink. In a crucial fourth set, KMS showcased resilient gameplay, rallying to win 25-16, propelled by key performances and strategic net play. The deciding fifth set was a nail-biter, with LQPV clinching a narrow 15-13 victory. Top performing Saints included Maddie Luft, who was not only key in blocks but also in scoring kills along with teammates Savannah Petersen and Emily Wagner. Defensive prowess was displayed by Abby Holtkamp with 16 digs, supported by Wagner with 13 and Ava Noble with 14. Noble also contributed 23 assists, demonstrating her versatility alongside Leah Wagner, who added 6 assists. Serving was a highlight, with Avery Magaard recording three aces, and noteworthy mentions for Noble and Wagner who earned two aces each. Coach Ruf reflected on the evening, stating, "Our serve receive was much better tonight but we just couldn’t take care of the ball in the front row. We need to minimize our hitting errors and take control right away." This game highlighted areas for improvement as the team prepares for their next confrontation against the RCW Jaguars on September 10, 2024, in Revnille.
