In an electrifying volleyball showdown at KMS High School, the Fighting Saints clinched a 3-1 victory over the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks on October 3, 2024. This match marked a significant occasion as KMS celebrated its senior night, honoring the commendable contributions of its senior players. The game kicked off with a challenging start for KMS, trailing 1-9 in the first set. However, a strategic shift in serving targeted Dawson-Boyd's key hitter, turning the tides in favor of the Fighting Saints who captured the first set 25-22. Though the Saints stumbled in the second set, losing 22-25, they rallied back strongly to secure the third and fourth sets with identical scores of 25-22 and 25-21, respectively. Key players for KMS included Maddie Luft and Emily, both securing 9 kills, and Madison Silas who added 7. Maddie Luft also stood out defensively with 2 blocks, the same count as her teammate Faith Duke, who was particularly strong at the net. The team’s defensive efforts were spearheaded by Abby Holtkamp with an impressive 20 digs, followed closely by Ava Noble with 17. In terms of serving, Emily Wagner made a significant impact with 3 aces. Assists were another area where KMS excelled, with Leah Wagner and Ava Noble contributing 13 and 11 assists respectively. The seniors received special recognition for their performance and leadership during the match, especially Faith Duke for her blocking proficiency. Coach Ruf expressed pride in her team's resilience and strategic gameplay, remarking, 'Proud of these girls for coming back from being down 1-9 and pulling off the win. Then losing the second game but than coming back out to take game 3 and 4.' The Fighting Saints look forward to their next challenge as they face multiple teams, including a rematch with Dawson-Boyd, at Marshall High School on October 4, 2024. With a current record of 3-13 overall and 2-7 in the conference, the KMS Volleyball team is eager to continue their momentum in the upcoming contests.
