KMS Varsity Volleyball Secures 4th Place at Underwood High School Tournament
KMS Schools' Varsity volleyball team stepped onto the courts at Underwood High School and fought valiantly through a series of demanding matches, cinching 4th place in a challenging tournament on October 15, 2024. The team squared off against formidable opponents: Wheaton Heron Norcross (WHN) Warriors, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (CGB) Wolverines, Sebeka Trojans, and Roseau Rams. The Fighting Saints opened their tournament with a sharp performance against the WHN Warriors, sweeping them in two straight sets, demonstrating their skill and teamwork. They maintained their momentum into their next game against the CGB Wolverines, overcoming a rocky start to win 2-1, a thrilling match that tested their resilience and composure. However, the pace changed as the Saints faced the Sebeka Trojans, where despite their best efforts, they fell 0-2 due to a series of hitting errors and challenges in serve receive. In a nail-biting battle for the 3rd place against the Roseau Rams, the team's performance fluctuated, ultimately leading to a 1-2 defeat in a closely contested game. The team faced crucial moments, with the score tied multiple times in the final set, displaying their fighting spirit until the very last point. Coach Ruf reflected on the day's events with mixed emotions, noting the team's strong start and the fluctuations in their performance. "Wheaton we came out strong firing on all cylinders. CGB, we didn't get off to a great start but then finished strong. The girls kept their composer after losing the 1st game- fun to see," the coach stated. However, the Sebeka game revealed areas needing improvement, particularly in hitting precision and server-receiver coordination. Looking forward, the Fighting Saints are set to take on the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles on October 25, 2024, in Eden Valley, aiming to harness their recent experiences for a better outcome. The coach's scrutiny of every play and the team's adaptable strategies promise an exciting confrontation ahead.
