KMS/Benson Cross Country Embraces the Cheers at Home, Gears Up for Conference Championships

In an exhilarating home meet at the picturesque Benson Golf Course on October 7, 2024, the KMS/Benson Cross Country team showcased their spirit and endurance. Against challenging competitors like Paynesville/BBE and Montevideo, both junior high and varsity teams took impressive strides under the watchful eyes of their supporters. The flat and speedy course favored fast times, a detail appreciated by spectators and athletes alike, tagging it as an extremely spectator-friendly event. Notably, KMS/Benson's Boys Varsity squad secured a commendable fourth position out of six complete teams, demonstrating their improving form as the season progresses. Standout performances were plenty. Alex Zurn, a key varsity runner, raced to a spectacular second place, while the prodigious Levi Pappadackis dominated the Boys Jr High category with a first-place victory. Additionally, contributions came from Mason McGeary and Noah Barrett, securing fifth and seventh positions, respectively, which added depth to the team's achievements. Coach VanHeuveln reflected on the meet with pride, noting the collective effort and community spirit, "I am extremely pleased with how the kids all ran in our final regular season meet, I am also truly grateful for all the help from parents and other volunteers in making our meet run smoothly and fun for all the teams and runners involved." As KMS/Benson Cross Country closes a successful regular season, eyes are now set on the West Central Conference Championship slated for October 15, 2024, at Meadowlark Golf Course in Melrose, MN. The team is poised to carry forward their momentum and challenge for top honors in what promises to be an intensely competitive event.
