KMS/Benson Cross Country Excels at River Crest Golf Course Invitational

In an impressive display of skill and determination, KMS/Benson Cross Country team participated in a thrilling invitational meet on October 2, 2017, held at the River Crest Golf Course in Montevideo, MN, facing a spectrum of teams including BOLD, CMCS, MACCRAY–RCW, Montevideo, Ortonville, SWMN Christian, and YME. While team scores were not officially tallied, the KMS/Benson Boys varsity team was estimated to have secured a commendable second place out of five complete teams. The day was marked by personal best performances from several athletes, notably Alex Zurn, Gavin Olson, and Oswaldo Moreno, who all outshone expectations. The event also saw a remarkable achievement in individual categories, particularly in the junior high races; Levi Pappadackis stole the show by clinching the first place, followed by strong performances from Mason McGeary and Noah Barrett. The girls categories were no less competitive with Alissa Thompson making it to the top 10 in the varsity group. Reflecting on the event, Coach VanHeuveln praised the favorable weather conditions and the flat course which contributed to the athletes' stellar performances. She also highlighted how the meet was a great opportunity for many participants to receive recognition, boosting their morale. "I am so pleased with where we are and where we are working towards for the end of the season," said Coach VanHeuveln. Looking ahead, the KMS/Benson Cross Country team eagerly anticipates their next challenge at the KMS/Benson Home Meet, scheduled to be held on October 7, 2024, at the Benson Golf Course. In addition to the regular competition, there will be a free, no sign-up required 3rd -6th grade fun run race at 4pm for students who would like to participate. The team aims to continue their strong performances and end the season on a high note.
