Paynesville Shuts Out Fighting Saints 41-0 in Murdock
MURDOCK, Minn. - Paynesville held the Fighting Saints scoreless and pulled away for a 41-0 victory Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs’ defense proved decisive, limiting KMS throughout the home game as the Saints struggled to turn their passing production into points.
The game was played in demanding early-September conditions, with a clear sky and a game-time temperature of 88 degrees. Paynesville handled the heat and maintained control on both sides of the ball, building a six-touchdown advantage while keeping the Saints out of the end zone.
KMS found its best offensive production through the air. Kylen Payne threw for 78 yards, providing the Saints with opportunities to move the ball despite Paynesville’s pressure. Kason Helgesonsupplied the biggest gains in the receiving game, catching two passes for 70 yards. That total included a 36-yard reception, the Saints’ longest reported offensive play.
Senior free safety Storm Solis led the defensive effort with eight tackles. Solis remained active against a Paynesville offense that accumulated 41 points, giving KMS a steady presence in the secondary and at the point of contact. His tackle total paced the Saints during a difficult afternoon in which the defense was repeatedly called upon to get stops.
The final score left KMS with clear areas to address, particularly finishing drives and preventing sustained scoring opportunities. The passing connection that produced 70 yards on two completions and Solis’ work on defense offered pieces for the Saints to build around. KMS is scheduled to remain home and face Kimball Area at 7 p.m. CDT Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026.
