Redwood Valley's Fast Start Sends Fighting Saints to 64-14 Loss
REDWOOD FALLS, Minn. - Redwood Valley scored 23 unanswered points in the first quarter and defeated The Saints 64-14 Friday night at the Redwood Valley Inglis Field Complex Football Field. The early surge proved decisive as the Saints played from behind throughout their 2026 season opener.
After the slow start, the Saints produced their first points of the season through the passing game in the second quarter. Kylen Payne connected with Storm Solis for a 47-yard touchdown, giving the offense its first breakthrough of the night. Payne finished 12 of 23 passing for 165 yards and one touchdown.
Solis was Payne's leading target, catching eight passes for 137 yards and the touchdown. The Saints also reached the end zone on the ground when Odin Shaw scored on a 7-yard run for their second touchdown. Shaw carried 16 times for 51 yards and helped provide balance to an offense that continued competing after Redwood Valley's opening-quarter run.
The Saints created opportunities defensively and finished plus-three in turnover margin. Tucker Wilts recovered two fumbles, giving the defense a pair of takeaways and highlighting an active effort around the football. Those turnovers, along with the two offensive touchdowns, gave the Saints concrete positives despite the final margin.
The opener was played in clear, warm and windy conditions, with the temperature at 82 degrees and winds at 20 mph at kickoff. The Saints will continue their road schedule against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at 7 p.m. CDT Friday, Sept. 18.
