Avon Rallies Past Magnificat With Three Second-Half Goals

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - Magnificat carried a one-goal lead into halftime before Avon scored three times in the second half to defeat the Blue Streaks 3-1 on Monday at Karnatz Family Field at Magnificat High. Avon’s No. 6 delivered the decisive goal on a breakaway with 26:18 remaining, putting the Eagles ahead 2-1.
Lexi Hradek gave Magnificat the lead with 21:05 left in the first half. Hradek chased down a wildly bouncing ball on a breakaway, adjusted to its unpredictable path and made a skilled touch to send it past the Avon goalkeeper. The unassisted finish provided the only goal of the first half.
Magnificat’s defense protected that advantage through halftime against an Avon team ranked No. 14 in Ohio. The Blue Streaks worked to contain Avon’s pressure and kept the Eagles scoreless throughout the opening half, giving Magnificat a 1-0 lead at the break.
Avon’s attack broke through with 28:58 remaining in the second half when No. 13 finished a ball moving toward the left side of the box to tie the match. Less than three minutes later, No. 6 broke through the Magnificat defense, moved to the left and slipped a shot past Lydia for the lead.
No. 6 added Avon’s final goal with 16:27 remaining, scoring again on a breakaway, this time attacking to the right. Magnificat’s defensive effort kept the Blue Streaks competitive against a highly ranked opponent, but Avon’s three-goal second-half surge proved too much to overcome. Magnificat next travels to face Upper Arlington at 3:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, Sept. 26.
