Blue Streaks Open Indoor Season with Strong Showing at NEOITC #1

Magnificat High School opened its indoor track and field league schedule with a strong, well-rounded performance at the NEOITC #1 meet Friday night at SPIRE, highlighted by multiple top-three finishes on the track and in the field. The Blue Streaks produced scoring efforts across sprints, middle distance, relays and jumps in the first league meet of the indoor season.
In the field events, the high jump duo of Kaitlyn Singleton and Mae McGreal set an early tone for Magnificat. Singleton cleared 4 feet, 10 inches to place third, while McGreal matched the 4-10 mark to finish just behind her teammate in fourth. Their combined effort gave the Blue Streaks an early boost in the team standings and showed depth in one of the meet’s key technical events.
On the track, sprinter Casey Ansberry led the way in the short dash. Ansberry placed third in the 60-meter dash, clocking 8.10 seconds to secure one of Magnificat’s top individual finishes of the evening. Her performance in the sprint final provided important points and signaled promising speed for the rest of the indoor campaign.
Magnificat also found success in the longer sprints, powered by a busy outing from junior standout Kelly Karabatsos. Karabatsos took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.32 seconds, then returned to the track to claim third in the 400 meters in 61.49. Her double helped anchor the Blue Streaks’ efforts in the one- and two-lap events and demonstrated versatility across multiple sprint distances.
In the middle-distance events, Megan Martin delivered a strong season-opening effort in the 800-meter run. Martin finished third in the race, crossing the line in 2:33 to add another top-three individual performance for the Blue Streaks. Her result in the half-mile provided balance to the sprint-heavy scoring and underscored Magnificat’s strength in the mid-distance group.
The night concluded with one of Magnificat’s best team efforts, as the 4x400-meter relay of Karabatsos, Mikaela Davala, Martin and Ansberry raced to a runner-up finish. The quartet combined to run 4:22, securing second place and closing the meet on a high note for the Blue Streaks. The relay’s performance capped a productive opening league meet that featured contributions from multiple event groups.
With several top-four finishes, a strong 4x400 relay, and solid marks in the field, Magnificat established a solid foundation for the remainder of the indoor season. The Blue Streaks will look to build on the early momentum from NEOITC #1 as the league schedule continues and athletes sharpen for championship competition later in the winter.
