ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - Lexi Hradek scored the go-ahead goal with about nine minutes remaining as Magnificat High School (7-4-1) rallied for a 3-1 soccer victory over Highland (8-3) on Monday, September 28. The Blue Streaks erased a deficit that began just 20 seconds into the match, scoring three times in the final 14 minutes to defeat an opponent that entered ranked among Ohio’s top 20 teams.
Highland struck first when an awkward bounce sent the ball past Lydia Hamad following a short sequence of kicks. Magnificat nearly answered at the 19:30 mark of the first half, when Hradek broke free but hit the crossbar. Highland and 8-2 Highland entered halftime tied 1-1 as Keaton Pechota tied the match at the 13:28 mark as she worked through a congested group of defenders to finish. Her goal brought the Blue Streaks to level at 1-1 and set up the decisive stretch.
The crossbar denied Hradek again on another strong play in the second half, but Magnificat eventually broke through.
Hradek delivered the winner about four minutes later. She maneuvered down the right side of the penalty area, beat the defenders and goalkeeper, and placed the ball into the left side of the net for a 2-1 lead (video below). Presley Farrow completed the scoring with about four minutes left, darting in from the left and making several moves on her approach before finishing to extend the margin to 3-1.
The victory moved Magnificat to No. 11 in Ohio’s Division I rankings, according to MaxPreps. Pechota, Hradek and Farrow each supplied a goal in the late comeback. The Blue Streaks will look to bounce back in their next contest on Saturday, October 3, against Jackson (Massillon).
