Hamad Shines as Magnificat Holds Defending State Champion Upper Arlington to Scoreless Draw

Magnificat withstood a furious barrage over the final five minutes to secure a 0-0 draw against defending state champion Upper Arlington on Saturday at Upper Arlington High School. The late defensive stand capped an impressive performance by the Blue Streaks against another of Ohio’s top teams.

Goalkeeper Lydia Hamad repeatedly kept Upper Arlington off the scoreboard, making a series of saves throughout the match. Her busiest stretch came in the closing minutes, when Upper Arlington applied heavy pressure and fired multiple shots toward goal. Hamad and the Magnificat defense answered every attempt to preserve the shutout.

Presley Farrow, Greta Trapp and Cailey Lentz led a disciplined effort along the back line. The trio stayed organized under pressure, closed shooting lanes and worked with Hamad to turn away Upper Arlington’s late push. Their teamwork and hustle were especially important during the chaotic final sequence.

Co-captain Moira Chambers delivered a strong performance in the midfield, helping Magnificat compete for possession and disrupting Upper Arlington’s attempts to build attacks. Co-captain Kalli Sdrakas also maintained a steady leadership role throughout the match as the Blue Streaks remained composed against an accomplished opponent. Neither side found a goal or an assist, leaving the defensive work as the defining feature of the match.

The result continued Magnificat’s demanding schedule, which has included multiple opponents ranked among Ohio’s top 20 teams. Earning a scoreless draw against the reigning state champion provided another measure of the Blue Streaks’ ability to compete with elite opposition.
