JV Blue Streaks Secure Victory Over Medina in Soccer Showdown

Peter Fitzpatrick | Magnificat High School | Sep 12, 2024

On a beautiful evening at St. Edward, Br. James Everett Field, the Magnificat High School JV soccer team faced off against the Medina Bees, and emerged victorious with a 2-0 win on September 11, 2024. The match kicked off under ideal conditions, with temperatures in the 60's, setting the stage for an exciting contest. Magnificat took an early lead with an incredible goal by Moira Chambers. Chambers' left-footed strike from outside the box soared into the top left corner, out of Medina's goalie's reach, marking a game-winning moment in the first half. The lead was further secured in the second half when Jayne Fitzpatrick capitalized on a well-positioned rebound to put the team ahead by two goals. The defense, like a 'blue wall,' put up a formidable performance, blocking key attempts by the Bees. Abbey Cupach, spoke about the team's cohesiveness, "We played as a team and worked very hard together to make good passes and through balls. We had great efforts on both goals to help put the Bees into the trap!" This spirit was mirrored by goalie Haley Wheeler, whose saves contributed to a clean sheet for the team. The defense of Abbey Cupach, Cailey Lentz, Carly Dudek, Viv Wood, Lola Fielder, and Clara Mellino was pivotal in shielding Wheeler and limiting Medina's scoring chances. The Blue Streaks will carry this momentum into their next game scheduled for September 16, 2024, against Avon High School, where they hope to extend their winning form. Fans and supporters eager to see more action from Magnificat High School can look forward to seeing their team play at home in their upcoming battle.
