Magnificat Blue Streaks Dominate Bishop Hartley in Canton Classic Showdown
The Magnificat High School Blue Streaks JV basketball team overpowered Bishop Hartley Hawks with a decisive 52-16 victory at the Canton Glen Oak "Wishes Can Happen" Classic on December 28, 2024. The Blue Streaks' dominant performance was evident from the get-go, establishing a commanding 21-2 lead by halftime, which set the tone for the rest of the encounter. The game was highlighted by a balanced scoring effort from the Blue Streaks, with nine out of ten players contributing to the scoreboard. Avery Maslar led the team with 10 points, closely followed by Lauren Beck with 9, and Moira Chambers adding 8. Other contributors included Jayne Fitzpatrick with 5 points, Elise LaPorte with 7, Ella Hummer and Abby Cupach with 4 each, Caroline Schmidt with 3 and Lilly Casterline with 2. The overwhelming first-half performance was part of a strategic execution that saw Magnificat's players showcasing exceptional team basketball, which was key to their victory. Coach's remarks underscored the team's cohesion and spirit, with Magnificat's coach expressing pride in the team's ability to execute their game plan. "I thought everybody played really well together as a team. It's not easy to come down after Christmas and play an hour away, and both games everybody showed up and did exactly what we asked them to for 2 days. It was just a really good overall team win both days," the coach stated. Looking ahead, the perfect-season Blue Streaks (7-0) will host Notre Dame Academy at Magnificat on January 4, 2025, aiming to extend their winning streak.
