Magnificat claims All Catholic title behind strong field-event finishes
Magnificat put together a championship afternoon Saturday at the All Catholic Invite in Gates Mills, finishing as the All Catholic champion with 124.2 points. The Blue Streaks built that title run with first-place finishes from Chloe Bibbo in the women’s pole vault and Mae McGreal in the women’s high jump, then added points across the sprints, hurdles and throws to separate themselves in a large meet field.
Bibbo delivered one of Magnificat’s top performances by winning the women’s pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches. McGreal matched that effort in the women’s high jump, clearing 5-0 to take first place. The Blue Streaks also doubled up in the high jump scoring, with Sadie Ross finishing second at 4-9, a key result that added to the team’s advantage in the standings.
On the track, Kelly Karabatsos turned in a runner-up finish in the women’s 400 meters, taking second in 59.07 seconds. Margaret Kelley added another second-place result for Magnificat in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, clocking 17.69. Those performances gave the Blue Streaks valuable points in running events to complement the team’s strength in the field.
Magnificat also found important scoring in the throws. Nadia placed third in the women’s discus with a mark of 110-8 and came back to finish third in the women’s shot put at 32-2. That double placing helped round out a balanced championship effort, with the Blue Streaks scoring in multiple event groups rather than relying on one area alone.
The combination of event victories, runner-up finishes and steady throwing points carried Magnificat to the meet title. Bibbo and McGreal supplied the wins, Karabatsos and Kelley added second-place finishes on the track, Ross strengthened the high jump scoring, and Nadia scored twice in the throws, giving the Blue Streaks the complete performance needed to leave the All Catholic Invite with the team championship.
