Magnificat High School Blue Streaks Compete in Avon Lake Invite at LCCC
On August 30, 2025, the Magnificat High School Blue Streaks participated in the Avon Lake Invite, a significant cross country event held at Lorain County Community College (LCCC). The varsity girls' team faced stiff competition from notable schools including St Joes, Hathaway Brown, and Bay.
The team achieved a commendable fifth place out of 20 teams. Megan Martin and Lizzie Corrigan were standout performers, securing the 18th and 19th spots with times of 20:58 and 20:59, respectively. Close behind, Ally Liller finished 24th with a time of 21:19, followed by Cassie Cicarella in 35th at 22:03, and Nora West in 44th at 22:25.
The event was not just about competition; it also had its share of memorable moments. For instance, athlete Jesse Vargo was heard calling out 'Papa!! Papa!!!' in search of Ted Rupe, the race timer, highlighting the personal connections and emotions involved in the sport.
Coach's advice to the team was encouraging and strategic, focusing on overcoming challenges: 'It's just a hill, attack it.' This epitomizes the team's approach to the sport, combining determination with a strong mental attitude.
