Magnificat JV Basketball Secures Decisive Victory Against Medina, 70-30
Magnificat High School's JV's showcased their dominance in a spectacular 70-30 victory over the Medina Battling Bees on January 11, 2025, at Medina High School. This regular-season clash saw Magnificat improve its perfect record to 9-0. The Blue Streaks came out strong right from the outset, leading 14-5 by the end of the first quarter and further extending their lead to 36-15 at halftime. They maintained their momentum throughout the game, capping off their performance with a 21-point explosion in the fourth quarter, marking the team's highest point tally of the season. Moira Chambers led the scoring for Magnificat with 12 points, closely followed by Ella Hummer and Lizzie Godlewski, who each added 10 points. Lauren Beck - 7, Jayne Fitzpatrick - 6, Avery Maslar - 6, Lilly Casterline -5, Abbey Cupach - 4 and Caroline Schmidt - 4 added to what turned out to be the best team offensive performance of the season. The game also featured significant contributions from Abbey Cupach and Julia Khoury, particularly with their outstanding defensive efforts. The team's extensive lineup allowed multiple players to score and contribute to the impressive win, underlining their depth and synergy. "We had great practices leading up to this game, and we started being really aggressive at tip-off," said Abbey Cupach, highlighting the team's preparedness and aggressive game-opening strategy. Coach Sarah Spicer praised the team's performance, emphasizing their unselfish play: "Our team moved the ball extremely well, it shows how unselfish we are. We have a program saying called 'Good, Better, Best' about shot selection. It's exciting to watch, we seem to be getting better every day." Looking ahead, the Blue Streaks will face Rocky River on January 15. As Magnificat continues their perfect season, the showdown at Rocky River promises to be another exciting chapter in their campaign.
