In the regular season opener for the JV basketball teams, Magnificat High School's Blue Streaks claimed a decisive victory over Gilmour Academy Lancers with a final score of 37-20 on November 27 at the Lancer Gymnasium. The game began tentatively with Magnificat trailing slightly after the first quarter with a score of 6-5. However, the Blue Streaks quickly shifted the momentum in their favor, outscoring the Lancers 19-6 in the second quarter. Despite a spirited comeback from Gilmour in the third, closing the gap to 27-20, Magnificat sealed the win with a strong fourth quarter performance. Lauren Beck led Magnificat with 8 points, supported by Elise Laporte, Lizzie Godlewski, Avery Maslar, with 6 points each and Ella Hummer with 4. Coach Sarah Spicer was pleased with the team's performance, emphasizing the importance of finishing strong. “I told the team let's finish the game, we need to kick it up, go as hard as we can and finish out on a good note,” Spicer commented. Player Lauren Beck highlighted the team's cohesion, saying, “I think we worked well as a team, we have a great bond.” This camaraderie was apparent as all team members played pivotal roles throughout the contest, contributing to what Spicer described as a 'nice team win.' The Blue Streaks next face Brush High School at home on December 7, riding high with a current perfect season record of 1-0.
