Magnificat JV Soccer Seals Season with 3-1 Victory Over Hathaway Brown

Peter Fitzpatrick | Magnificat High School | Oct 10, 2024

In an great season-ending JV soccer showdown, Magnificat High School's Blue Streaks triumphed 3-1 against Hathaway Brown's Blazers on a crisp fall evening at St. Edward's Br. James Everett Stadium on October 9, 2024. This victory marked a spectacular end to the Blue Streaks' regular season, as they showcased their skills under the lights to conclude with an impressive 10-4-3 record. From the outset, the Blue Streaks set a fast pace, ending the first half with a 1-0 lead. Moira Chambers capitalized on a great crossing pass and punched a goal into the right side of the goal out of the HB keeper's reach. Chambers continued to display her ability to put the ball into the net. The game intensified when Hathaway Brown equalized early in the second half on a goal that came through a scrum in front of the Magnificat goal. However, Magnificat's resolve shone brightly as Lola Fielder scored a crucial go-ahead goal, as she blasted a beautiful goal into the upper left side of the goal at the 12-minute mark. It was the quintessential "great team play" as the goal came together on a pass by Margaret Kelley, then to Charleigh Pechota, who then dumped it to the left for the Fielder beauty! This put the Blue Streaks up 2-1 and served as the game-winning goal. Moments later, Charleigh Pechota found the net again, putting the ice onto the team’s victory at 3-1. Haley Wheeler, guarding the goal, and several players created a "blue wall" that ws hard to penetrate, especially when HB tied it 1-1. The defense has proven to be solid all season. Reflecting on the season, player Jayne Fitzpatrick shared, "It was an awesome way to finish the JV season. We had so much fun together and really improved as a team during the year. We are all looking forward to the future!" This game not only celebrated a win but also the spirit of teamwork and improvement throughout the season. The Magnificat community and fans have every reason to be proud of these young athletes as they look towards an even brighter future in soccer.
