Magnificat finished 11th with 19 points Monday at the Avon Lake Invite, turning in a competitive showing despite a short-handed lineup at 175 Avon Belden Rd. in Avon Lake. Competing during Spring Break and Easter, the Blue Streaks still produced several strong finishes, led by Mae McGreal’s runner-up performance in the high jump.

McGreal cleared 5 feet, 2 inches to place second in the event, giving Magnificat its top individual result of the meet. Her finish stood out on an afternoon that featured light rain showers, cool temperatures and 17 mph winds, conditions that added another layer of difficulty for the field.

The Blue Streaks also scored in the 4x200 relay, where the quartet of Loeffler, Davala, Modic and Watson placed sixth in 1 minute, 54 seconds. The relay provided another key contribution to the team total and added to a meet in which Magnificat continued to compete at the standard expected, even with limited numbers available.

Freshman Harlan Laux delivered one of the more versatile efforts of the day, finishing seventh in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Posting top-seven results in two sprint events gave the Blue Streaks valuable points and highlighted another promising performance from the younger part of the roster.

Taken together, the results reflected a steady outing for Magnificat in challenging circumstances. The Blue Streaks did not bring a full squad to Avon Lake, but still left the meet with a second-place finish in the high jump, points in a relay, and double scoring performances from Laux, a solid collection of efforts as the season moves forward.
