Magnificat Pushes No. 4 Walsh Jesuit to the Brink in 4-3 Loss

Magnificat pushed fourth-ranked Walsh Jesuit to the final whistle Wednesday before falling 4-3 in a back-and-forth match at Karnatz Family Field at Magnificat High. Walsh’s goal off a deflection with 36:50 remaining in the second half proved decisive, but the Blue Streaks answered and nearly completed the upset against one of the state’s top teams.
Kalli Sdrakas gave Magnificat the lead with 25:22 left in the first half, driving a strong penalty kick into the right side of the net. Walsh responded less than three minutes later when No. 22 attacked down the left side and slipped a shot past the goalkeeper at the 22:40 mark. Walsh moved ahead 2-1 with 17:48 remaining on a looping shot from the right side, just outside the penalty area.
Teagan Mulloy pulled the Blue Streaks level with six minutes left before halftime. After the ball moved back and forth during a scramble in the middle, Mulloy gained control and blasted a shot past the goalkeeper’s right side. Walsh regained the lead at the 2:30 mark with a long, well-placed strike into the left side of the goal, sending Magnificat into halftime trailing 3-2.
Walsh extended its advantage to 4-2 early in the second half when a deflection produced the eventual winning goal with 36:50 to play. Magnificat continued to press despite the two-goal deficit and cut the margin in half at 21:01. Carly Dudek delivered a corner kick from the right side, and Mulloy headed it into the net for her second goal of the match (video below!)
