Magnificat takes fourth at Bulldog Relays as two relay groups deliver victories
Magnificat High School finished fourth out of eight teams Friday at the Bulldog Relays in Olmsted Falls, led by a pair of winning efforts that also supplied two of the meet’s biggest highlights for the Blue Streaks. The sprint medley relay team of Chloe Bibbo, Harlan Laux, Casey Ansberry and Kelly Karabatsos crossed first in 1 minute, 51.83 seconds, while the high jump relay of Mae McGreal, Sarah Frericks and Sadie Ross also won with a combined height of 15 feet, 2 inches.
The Blue Streaks’ top finish in the sprint medley gave Magnificat an event title on the track and set the tone for a strong all-around day at Olmsted Falls. Bibbo, Laux, Ansberry and Karabatsos combined for one of the team’s best performances of the meet, delivering a winning time of 1:51.83 against the relay field.
Magnificat was just as strong in the field events. McGreal, Frericks and Ross claimed first place in the high jump relay by clearing a combined 15-2, a mark that now stands as the No. 1 all-time high jump relay performance in school history. The victory gave the Blue Streaks another first-place finish and added a record-setting result to the team’s day.
Taken together, those two relay wins helped push Magnificat to its fourth-place team finish in the eight-team meet. On a clear afternoon with temperatures in the upper 50s at Olmsted Falls, the Blue Streaks produced the kind of depth that relay meets reward, combining event victories with point-scoring efforts across the lineup.
The Bulldog Relays format put an emphasis on group performances, and Magnificat answered with coordinated results in both the sprint medley and high jump relay. The Blue Streaks left the meet with two championships, a school all-time mark in the high jump relay, and another strong early-May showing as the postseason portion of the schedule approaches.
