Magnificat High School closed out its league indoor slate with a strong all-around effort Friday night, placing fourth out of 11 teams with 63 points at the NEOTIC #3 meet at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. With berths on the line for the Feb. 20 All Star Meet, the Blue Streaks used depth across the sprints, jumps and relays to secure a top-four team finish in a competitive field.
Sprinter-jumper Casey Ansberry led Magnificat’s charge with one of the most productive individual performances of the meet. Ansberry recorded a personal record in the 60-meter dash, finishing second in 7.97 seconds, and added a third-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 26.94. She also claimed second in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 0.5 inches, giving the Blue Streaks major scoring production on both the track and in the field.
Ansberry’s night capped with a victory in the 4x200-meter relay, where she anchored Magnificat to the win in 1:49.47. The relay, which featured Chloe Bibbo leading off and strong middle legs from Mikaela Davala and Kelly Karabatsos, secured one of the Blue Streaks’ key event titles of the evening. The win in the 4x200 not only boosted the team score but also reinforced Magnificat’s strength in the sprint relays heading into championship competition later in the month.
In the field events, high jumper Mae McGreal delivered a critical runner-up finish with a clearance of 5 feet, 0 inches. Her performance added another high-value placing as the Blue Streaks continued to compile points in multiple disciplines. Bibbo also contributed in the pole vault, taking third with a mark of 9 feet, 0 inches to give Magnificat podium finishes in two separate jumps.
On the oval, Davala added to the relay victory with an individual scoring effort in the 400 meters. She placed fourth in 66.24 seconds, demonstrating consistency across both sprint and middle-distance workload. Combined with Ansberry’s sprints, Davala’s 400 and the relay title, Magnificat’s sprint group accounted for a significant portion of the team’s 63-point total.
With NEOTIC #3 serving as the final league meet to determine qualifiers for the Feb. 20 All Star Meet, Magnificat’s blend of event wins, runner-up finishes and relay strength positioned several athletes for postseason opportunities. The fourth-place team finish against 10 other programs offered a solid benchmark, and the Blue Streaks now turn their attention to converting these performances into even bigger results on the championship stage.
