Softball Clinches Sectional Championship 6-3 Over Medina

Magnificat Softball secured a 6-3 road win against the Medina Bees to clinch their first OHSAA Division I Sectional Championship since 2008. The game was a thriller, with the Blue Streaks taking an early 3-0 lead that was eventually gamed by the Bees in the bottom of the fifth inning. However, Magnificat surged in the crucial stages of the game, retaking the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning. Key contributors to Magnificat's victory included key hitters junior Vanessa Roth, senior Lauren Shaver, senior Ruari Dever, and sophomore Marylynn Kennedy who collectively scored the six runs. Roth stood out with three runs, while Shaver's sprint around the bases rewarded her with a triple. Senior Summer Solitaria's two RBIs were vital, joined by Dever, Shaver, and senior Caroline Johnson in adding runs to the scoreboard. The Blue Streaks rounded out their batting performance with extra-base hits; Roth, Johnson, and Dever each smacked doubles. Starting pitcher senior Rachel Witalis delivered a solid performance that included striking out three of the opposing batters. The Blue Streaks advance to face Revere in the OHSAA Division I District Semifinal on Monday, May 13th at 5:00pm at North Ridgeville High School.
