Varsity Basketball Prevails In Battle Of The 116; Improves To 10-3 On The Season

Magnificat Varsity Basketball took care of Rocky River with a convincing 74-47 road victory on January 15th. The game, held at Rocky River High School, saw the Blue Streaks extend their season record to 10-3 in this regular-season encounter. From the onset, the Blue Streaks set the pace, leading 33-24 at halftime due to a solid offensive and defensive performance. The team did not let up in the second half, eventually doubling their lead and securing a substantial win. The highlight of the night was the team's ability to pressure the Pirates into 28 turnovers, a testament to their strategic defense. The scoring was evenly spread among the Blue Streaks' top performers. Senior Sofia Wilson led with 18 points and contributed 4 assists, setting up crucial plays. Fellow seniors Julia Hall and Reese Roggenburk each put up 17 and 16 points respectively, and both grabbed 7 rebounds. Junior Gemma Wichmann matched Roggenburk's 16 points and dominated the boards with 9 rebounds, contributing significantly to the team's rebounding strength. Senior Sophia LaPorte dished out 3 assists and played strong defense again for Magnificat. Following their impressive victory, the Blue Streaks are looking ahead to their next challenge against Mount Notre Dame from Cincinnati, scheduled for January 18th at 6:00pm at Hiland High School in Berlin, Ohio as part of the Classic in the Country Challenge.
