Normandy High School’s Invaders women’s basketball team used a strong second half to pull away from Valley Forge on Saturday night, earning a 54-35 road victory after carrying a 23-16 lead into halftime.
The Invaders controlled the tempo early, building a seven-point cushion by the break behind efficient half-court offense and steady defensive pressure. Normandy limited Valley Forge to 16 first-half points, contesting shots in the lane and forcing the Patriots into difficult looks. That defensive effort set the tone for what became a dominant second half, as the Invaders outscored Valley Forge 31-19 after halftime to secure the win.
Guard Ziley Minich led Normandy’s attack, finishing with a game-high 20 points. Minich consistently created scoring opportunities off the dribble, converting drives to the basket and capitalizing on trips to the free-throw line. Her production helped the Invaders respond whenever Valley Forge threatened to cut into the lead, particularly during a key stretch in the third quarter when Normandy began to separate for good.
Lindsay Meriwether added nine points for the Invaders, providing an additional scoring option on the perimeter and in transition. Meriwether’s baskets helped fuel a decisive run out of the locker room, as Normandy pushed the lead into double digits and forced Valley Forge to play from behind the rest of the way. The Invaders’ balanced scoring made it difficult for the Patriots to focus their defense on any one player.
Keilei Anderson contributed six points, giving Normandy solid production in the backcourt alongside Minich. Anderson’s ability to handle pressure and initiate the offense helped the Invaders maintain composure as the pace increased in the second half. Gianna Carcioppolo chipped in five points, adding depth to the scoring column as Normandy continued to build its advantage in the fourth quarter.
Normandy’s ability to sustain defensive intensity over four quarters proved to be the difference. Holding Valley Forge to 16 points in the first half and just 35 for the game, the Invaders turned stops into scoring opportunities and steadily widened the margin. With the 54-35 victory, Normandy extended its early-season momentum and demonstrated a formula built on balanced scoring and consistent defense that figures to serve the team well as the schedule continues.
