Normandy High School Invaders Clinch Victory in Season Opener Against Mayfield
In a thrilling season home opener, the Normandy High School Invaders girls' varsity volleyball team secured a hard-fought victory over the Mayfield Wildcats on August 18, 2025, at the Normandy Dome. The final score of 15-11 in the decisive fifth set marked a significant win for the Invaders.
The match opened with Mayfield taking an early lead, winning the first set 25-22 despite strong efforts from the Invaders. Normandy bounced back in the second set, dominating with a 25-9 win. The momentum swung back to Mayfield in the third set, where they claimed a 25-15 victory. However, the Invaders' resilience shone through in the fourth and fifth sets, winning 25-21 and 15-11, respectively, to clinch the match.
Key performances were noted from Anais Valentin Rivera who led with 14 kills, followed closely by Addison Giraldo with 11 kills, and Ariana Valentin Rivera with 10. Ariena Valentin Rivera's crucial block in the final set sealed the win for Normandy. Jess Chuba also made significant contributions with 4 aces throughout the match, aiding the Invaders' comeback.
Reflecting on the match, the coach praised the team's defensive efforts, particularly in the last two sets, which were pivotal for their victory. Looking ahead, the Normandy Invaders will face Laurel on August 20, 2025, at the Normandy Dome, as they aim to build on their current record of 1-1.
