AKRON, Ohio — The Normandy High School Invaders men’s swimming and diving team posted a solid day of performances at the OHSAA sectional meet Saturday at the University of Akron, highlighted by a sectional title from Blake Colwell in the 100-yard breaststroke and a top-three finish in the 200-yard individual medley.

Colwell led the Invaders with one of the meet’s standout swims, capturing first overall in the 100 breaststroke in 59.37 seconds. His time put him at the top of a deep field and capped a busy individual schedule that also included a strong performance in the 200 IM, where he clocked 1:59.89 to take third place. The combination of a sectional championship and a podium finish set the tone for Normandy’s day in the water.

The Invaders also opened the meet with a competitive showing in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Colwell, Kayden Caraballo, Adam Lozitsky and Eli Boose placed 15th overall in 1:47.06. The relay’s balanced splits across backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle gave Normandy early momentum in the team standings and demonstrated the program’s depth across multiple strokes.

Boose added two key individual swims in the sprint and butterfly events. In the 50-yard freestyle, he finished 27th with a time of 23.80 seconds, then returned in the 100-yard butterfly to place 13th in 56.88. His ability to score in both a pure sprint and a technical stroke event provided important points and flexibility to the Invaders’ lineup.

Caraballo contributed in the backstroke, taking 32nd overall in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:03.09. While just outside the top tier of finishers, his swim added depth in a key event and helped round out Normandy’s presence across the individual strokes on the sectional stage.

On the boards, diver Mike Gircsis delivered for the Invaders in the 1-meter event. Gircsis compiled a score of 190.65 to finish 24th. His performance gave Normandy representation in diving and added another scoring component to the team’s sectional effort, complementing the work done in the pool by the swimmers.

With a sectional title, multiple top-30 finishes and a relay scoring performance, Normandy’s men’s swimming and diving team leaves Akron with momentum and valuable championship-meet experience. The Invaders will look to build on Colwell’s breaststroke win and the team’s overall depth as they turn their attention to the next phase of the postseason and future championship opportunities.
