Normandy’s Colwell Claims Sixth in State in 100 Breaststroke
CANTON, Ohio — Normandy High School’s Invaders men’s swimming and diving program was represented on the podium at the OHSAA State Championships, as Blake Colwell raced to a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke on Saturday in Canton.
Colwell capped his championship run with a time of 56.14 in the 100 breaststroke, earning a spot among the top swimmers in Ohio. His performance placed him sixth in the state and highlighted the Invaders’ presence on one of the biggest stages of the high school season.
The Normandy standout advanced through the postseason ladder, moving from sectionals to districts and into the state meet, where he delivered one of the fastest breaststroke times of the day. His 56.14 mark secured a place in the championship final and positioned him firmly in the top tier of Ohio’s breaststrokers.
Colwell’s result at state continued the upward trajectory of the Invaders program, which has seen steady progress through the OHSAA postseason. By placing sixth, he added valuable points to Normandy’s team total and provided the Invaders with a notable finish in a highly competitive field.
While the OHSAA State Championships feature athletes from across the state and do not produce a traditional dual-meet team score, Colwell’s performance served as the Invaders’ signature result in Canton. His swim in the 100 breaststroke stood out as Normandy’s top performance of the meet.
The state finish also sets a strong benchmark for future Invaders swimmers and divers aiming to reach the championship level. With Colwell’s sixth-place performance and 56.14 time now part of the program’s postseason resume, Normandy heads into upcoming seasons with a proven standard of success at the state level.
