Young Normandy softball team leans on versatile returners entering new season

Chris Medaglia | Normandy High School | Apr 1, 2026

Normandy enters the softball season with a clear sense of identity, even as the Invaders break in a young roster. The program expects to rely on energy, daily improvement and positional versatility as it works toward a stronger spring, a combination that shapes the outlook for a varsity group still gaining experience. For a team in transition, the early focus is less about quick results and more about steady growth that can turn into a successful season.

That development starts with a handful of key returners. Junior Allison Pollock gives Normandy flexibility across the field, with experience at shortstop, third base and in the outfield. Junior Ava Ramirez is another central piece, bringing value both in the circle and at second base. Senior Lizzie Skidmore adds veteran presence to a young team and can contribute in center field or behind the plate, giving the Invaders leadership at two important spots. Those three players provide the kind of stability Normandy will need as younger teammates settle into larger roles.

The broader roster reflects that youth movement. Players such as Adrienne Andos, Liana Garcia, Claire Karlak, Maddie Kirk, Aubrey Kuhn, Gianna Lynch, Alyssa Parker, Emily Rutkowsky and Kendall Straight give Normandy additional depth as the season unfolds. With so many players still developing at the varsity level, the Invaders' strength may come from how quickly they improve from game to game and how well they adapt to different assignments over the course of the schedule.

The schedule offers little time to ease in. Normandy already opened against Berea-Midpark and Lorain, then turns toward a run of challenging matchups that includes conference games against North Olmsted, Bay and Rocky River. A back-to-back set at Bay on April 7 and April 8 should be one of the early measuring-stick stretches, while home dates against Cleveland Heights, Columbia and Rocky River will give the Invaders chances to show how that young roster is progressing.

For Normandy, the season preview is as much about trajectory as it is about immediate results. The Invaders know they are building with a young team, but the presence of Pollock, Ramirez and Skidmore gives them a foundation at premium positions. If that core can guide the group through the demanding early portion of the schedule, Normandy could turn its youth into a strength by the time the season settles into rhythm.
