Northeastern Junior College Dominates Otero with 42-15 Dual Victory

Northeastern Junior College rolled to a decisive 42-15 dual victory at Otero Junior College on Wednesday, powered by five pins and two forfeit wins in a dominant Region IX performance. The Plainsmen won five of the seven contested bouts and controlled the action in the upper weights to put the dual out of reach.
The tone was set early at 125 pounds, where Chad Teters opened the dual with a win by pinfall, giving the Plainsmen an immediate jolt of momentum and a 6-0 team lead. Northeastern kept the pressure on at 141 pounds as Carlos Villarreal also secured a pin, extending the advantage and reinforcing the team’s ability to convert opportunities into bonus points on the scoreboard.
While Otero broke through in a pair of bouts to keep the dual within reach in the middle weights, Northeastern’s lineup proved too deep. The Plainsmen added two forfeit victories, capitalizing on open weights to tack on 12 critical team points without sending a wrestler to the mat. Those uncontested wins helped maintain separation on the scoreboard and shifted additional pressure onto Otero in the remaining matches.
The turning point came in the upper weights, where Northeastern slammed the door with a powerful closing run. At 184 pounds, DDC Wrestler of the Dual, Rene Perez delivered a win by pinfall, swinging the momentum firmly back to the Plainsmen and reinforcing his role as a key contributor in the lineup. Perez’s performance was identified by the staff as one of the highlights of the night, both for the result and the way he controlled the bout.
Northeastern continued to dominate at 197 pounds, where Josef Sanchez added another pin, further widening the gap on the team score and effectively sealing the dual. Heavyweight closed the show in emphatic fashion as 285-pounder Ryan Escamilla recorded the fifth pin of the night for the Plainsmen, capping a relentless stretch through the upper weights that left little doubt about the outcome.
By the end of the dual, Northeastern’s combination of aggression, bonus-point wins and depth across the lineup produced a convincing 42-15 final. With five pins, two forfeits and victories in five of seven contested matches, the Plainsmen delivered a comprehensive team effort on the road against a regional opponent, building momentum as the season continues and underscoring the strength of their core weights.
