Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen Shine at Younes Hospitality Open

Colby Duncan | Northeastern Junior College | Nov 24, 2025

The Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen wrestling team demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience at the Younes Hospitality Open held at the University of Nebraska Kearney on November 22, 2025. The event saw the Plainsmen securing a notable 26 individual match wins, with key contributions from several wrestlers. Among the participants, 12 different NJC wrestlers claimed victories, showcasing the depth and talent within the team. Notably, Trevor Hermosillo, Teagan Jacobs, Billy Brenton, Ethan Sinclair, and Tuck Wray each earned three victories, contributing significantly to the team's overall success. Ethan Sinclair, recognized as the DDC wrestler of the tournament, advanced impressively to the semi-finals, highlighting his prowess on the mat. The Plainsmen, under the guidance of Coach Duncan, exhibited a strong comeback following a tough dual loss to Western Wyoming. With four wrestlers reaching the quarter-finals and one advancing to the semi-finals, the team's performance was not just a turnaround but a demonstration of determination and hard work. Coach Duncan praised the team's effort, particularly the ability to stay focused and competitive instead of succumbing to the temptation of an early break before the Thanksgiving holiday. Looking ahead, the Plainsmen are scheduled to face new challenges against Southeast Community College and Labette Community College on December 4, 2025, at Southeast Community College. The team aims to carry forward the momentum from this tournament into the remaining season, building on the positive energy and experiences gained at the Younes Hospitality Open.
