STERLING, Colo. — Northeastern Junior College clinched the Region IX South title Saturday night, riding a dominant second half to a 72-53 home victory over Western Nebraska at the Bank of Colorado Events Center.

The Plainsmen led 33-27 at halftime and used a decisive offensive surge after the break to put the game out of reach. Northeastern shot 69.6 percent from the field in the second half and 55.6 percent for the game, steadily building on its advantage while limiting the Cougars’ looks on the other end.

Quis Davis fueled the Plainsmen attack with a game-high 24 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds, helping Northeastern control the tempo in the backcourt. Ethan Carter added 18 points, giving the Plainsmen a consistent scoring presence that Western Nebraska struggled to contain once the offense found its rhythm in the second half.

Dodge Davis provided a key double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, anchoring the glass and extending possessions for Northeastern. His work on the boards complemented the Plainsmen’s perimeter efficiency, allowing Northeastern to turn defensive stops into high-percentage opportunities in transition and early offense.

Defensively, the Plainsmen delivered one of their grittiest efforts of the season. After limiting Western Nebraska to just 27 points in the first half, Northeastern tightened further after the break, holding the Cougars to 26 second-half points and preventing any sustained run. Timely stops out of timeouts and in late-clock situations kept Western Nebraska from cutting significantly into the margin.

With the win, Northeastern capped the regular-season matchup against Western Nebraska by pairing efficient shooting with a disciplined defensive game plan. The performance positioned the Plainsmen well as they turn their attention to postseason play, carrying both the Region IX South title and significant momentum into their next challenge.
