Northeastern Junior College Struggles Against Trinidad State in South Region Basketball Encounter
In a challenging South Region basketball encounter, Northeastern Junior College faced a tough loss against Trinidad State with a final score of 72-87 at the Bank of Colorado Event Center on January 24, 2025. The Plainswomen, currently holding a record of 3-18, were not able to contain the Trojans' rampant three-point shooting, according to head coach Bronson Moton. Abby Leahy emerged as a key player for NJC, leading the team with 16 points. Her performance was crucial, but despite her efforts and those from Daniela Garcia Gaso and Bella Peterson, who each added 12 points, along with Yaly Ben Harush's 11 points, it was not enough to secure a victory. Coach Moton noted post-game, "We allowed Trinidad too many open opportunities from three and they took advantage of them." The Plainswomen are set to move forward quickly from this setback, facing Otero tomorrow at 1pm, allowing little time to dwell on the defeat. The team remains focused on improving their defensive play to better handle proficient scoring teams in future matchups.
