In a fiercely contested South Region basketball game, the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen were defeated by Western Nebraska Community College Cougars with a final score of 86-72 on February 10, 2025, at the Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff, NE. Uwami Chongo, the standout player for the Plainsmen, was named the DDC Player of the Game, rallying up 18 points and 11 rebounds in a valiant effort. Despite their strong performance, the Plainsmen were unable to cinch a victory against the Cougars, as mentioned by Northeastern's coach. Reflecting on the game, Coach Trenkle emphasized the need for improvement, stating, "we need to limit the amount of our unforced errors." This loss places the Plainsmen's season record at 8-16, maintaining a 3-3 tally in their regional play. Looking ahead, the Plainsmen are set to face Otero College on February 14, 2025, in La Junta, CO. As they prepare for this upcoming encounter, Coach Trenkle and the team will likely focus on tightening their game strategies to avoid past mistakes and to enhance their performance on the court.
