Northeastern Junior College capped a productive weekend in Rock Springs, Wyoming, with a fourth-place team finish at the NJCAA Plains District Championships, highlighted by seven Plainsmen securing berths to the 2026 NJCAA Wrestling Championships.

Leading the charge for Plainsmen Men’s Wrestling were Teagan Jacobs, Ryan Gonzales and Tom Stoll, each placing third in their respective weight classes to punch automatic tickets to the national tournament. Their podium finishes provided key team points in a deep district field and set the tone for Northeastern’s overall performance at Western Wyoming’s campus site.

The Plainsmen added important qualifiers through the wild-card process as well. Chad Teters, Ethan Sinclair, Billy Brenton and Ryan Escamilla each battled to fourth-place finishes, then had their seasons extended when they were selected as wild cards for nationals. Those selections brought Northeastern’s total to seven national qualifiers, underscoring the team’s balance across multiple weights.

"The team had a great day and things really seemed to go our way. Everybody who qualified won matches they had to win and got the job done when it mattered. I am so proud of the these guys and pumped up to take 7 individuals to Iowa!

Across the tournament, Northeastern wrestlers navigated tough early-round draws to stay alive in the consolations and climb into placement matches. The combination of third- and fourth-place efforts allowed the Plainsmen to accumulate enough team points to secure fourth overall in the district standings, a strong showing in a championship environment that featured several nationally ranked programs.

Head coach Colby Duncan oversaw a lineup that responded well in must-win situations, particularly in the consolation semifinals and placement bouts that determined both team scoring and national qualification. The seven qualifiers give Northeastern meaningful representation at the next level and validate the work the program has invested throughout the regular season.

With the Plains District Championships complete, attention now turns to preparation for the 2026 NJCAA Wrestling Championships. The Plainsmen qualifiers will look to build on their district momentum, aiming to turn individual podium finishes into national success while representing Northeastern Junior College on the biggest stage of the NJCAA season.
