Sepeda’s 24 Points Lead Northeastern JC Past Laramie County, 61–55

Northeastern Junior College opened 2026 in winning fashion, riding a balanced effort and a late first-half surge to a 61–55 victory over Laramie County on Thursday night at the Bank of Colorado Event Center. The Plainswomen extended their win streak to two games behind a game-high 24 points from Madison Sepeda and a dominant night on the glass from Daniela Garcia Gasco.

One of the decisive moments came just before halftime, when Vernica Baray buried a key 3-pointer to close the second quarter. The shot gave Northeastern a jolt of momentum heading into the locker room and set the tone for a stronger second half. From there, the Plainswomen tightened up defensively and made enough plays on both ends to keep Laramie County at arm’s length the rest of the way.

Sepeda fueled the Northeastern offense throughout the night, attacking the basket and knocking down shots in critical stretches on her way to 24 points and three rebounds. Whenever Laramie County threatened to close the gap, Sepeda provided an answer, helping the Plainswomen maintain control in a game that remained competitive into the closing minutes.

In the paint, Garcia Gasco was a difference-maker with her work on the boards. She finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds, anchoring Northeastern’s interior presence and limiting second-chance opportunities for Laramie County. With the performance, Garcia Gasco moved into 10th place in program history in career rebounds, adding a notable milestone to an already impactful outing.

The Plainswomen also received timely scoring from their supporting cast. Monique Sena and Rebekah Seggerman chipped in nine points apiece, with Seggerman also collecting three rebounds. Their contributions gave Northeastern needed balance, preventing Laramie County from keying solely on Sepeda and Garcia Gasco in the half-court.

Defensively, Northeastern’s effort in the second half helped preserve the six-point margin. The Plainswomen closed out on shooters, battled on the glass and forced Laramie County into difficult looks as the visitors tried to mount a comeback. Key stops in the final minutes allowed Northeastern to manage the clock and finish off its first win of the new year.

With the 61–55 victory, Northeastern Junior College not only secured its first win of 2026 but also built on its growing momentum with a second straight victory. The performance showcased the Plainswomen’s combination of perimeter scoring, interior rebounding and timely shooting—ingredients the team will look to carry into the rest of the season.
