Stifling Defense Fuels Northeastern Junior College’s 78-47 Road Win at Southeast Community College

Northeastern Junior College used a suffocating defensive effort to seize control early and never let go, rolling to a 78-47 road victory over Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Thursday night.

The Plainsmen set the tone from the opening tip, bottling up the Bobcats on their home floor and racing to a commanding 43-18 lead at halftime. Northeastern’s length and activity disrupted nearly every Southeast possession, forcing difficult looks and limiting clean attempts from the perimeter. The Bobcats never recovered as the Plainsmen methodically extended the lead after the break and closed out a convincing nonconference win.

Northeastern’s defense was the story from start to finish. The Plainsmen held Southeast to just 19.7% shooting from the field and 13.8% from 3-point range, numbers that reflected both the game plan and the execution on that end of the floor. Closeouts on shooters, pressure on ballhandlers and strong rebounding limited the Bobcats to one-and-done trips, while Northeastern consistently turned stops into transition opportunities and efficient half-court offense.

Offensively, the Plainsmen received balanced production, highlighted by an all-around performance from Dodge Davis. Davis finished with 16 points and eight rebounds while shooting 7-for-10 from the floor, providing a steady scoring presence throughout the night. Quis Davis added another dimension to the Northeastern attack, totaling 13 points, five assists and four rebounds. His playmaking helped keep the offense organized and spread the floor, creating quality looks for teammates as the Plainsmen built and protected their lead. Parker Davis anchored the interior with eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds, further underscoring Northeastern’s dominance on the boards and in the paint.

Perimeter contributions rounded out the effort, with Jakobe Jones providing timely outside shooting. Jones scored nine points and connected on 2 of 4 attempts from beyond the arc, stretching the Southeast defense and capitalizing on drive-and-kick opportunities created by Northeastern’s guards.
