Richmond Heights Police Department Ready to Introduce New Community Policing/Therapy K-9

Gregory Patterson | Richmond Heights Police Department | Feb 7, 2025

In an engaging update from the Richmond Heights Police Department, the department is set to welcome a new Community Policing/Therapy K-9 on February 16, 2025. The new furry addition to the department is a nine week old, English black Labrador retriever. This initiative, spearheaded by Sgt. Greg Patterson (who will also be the dog's handler), highlights the department's commitment to enhancing community relations and fostering a supportive environment. The introduction of the new K-9 is part of the department's ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with the community and improve policing strategies. The addition of the therapy K-9 is expected to offer therapeutic interactions and aid in community engagement activities, portraying a softer side of law enforcement. The department has partnered with the Richmond Heights Elementary School students to hold a naming contest for the dog. Students will submit name suggestions, and from there, the list will be narrowed down. The winning name will then be selected by the department from that short-list. Sgt. Greg Patterson, who has been instrumental in this initiative, expressed optimism about the positive impact the therapy dog will have on community interaction. "It represents a significant step toward strengthening the bond between our police department and the community that we serve. By actively participating in schools, businesses, and various community events, the dog will become a beloved and familiar presence, creating positive interactions and fostering a sense of security and trust," stated Sgt. Patterson.
