Saint Ignatius rolled to a 3-0 road win over Massillon Jackson on Thursday night, taking the match 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 at Jackson High School in Massillon. For the third time this season, the Wildcats defeated Jackson in straight sets, setting the tone early with tough serving, big swings and the steady ball control that kept the pressure on all evening.
The Wildcats were sharp from the start. Andrew Brobbey opened one early push in the first set with an ace, and Jack Ragon added another during a quick scoring run that helped Saint Ignatius move in front 4-1. Later in the set, Gavin Schafer delivered a block that stretched the lead to 14-6, a sequence that reflected the match summary perfectly, strong passing on the back end, solid blocking at the net and enough attacking punch to keep Jackson chasing. Saint Ignatius closed the opener at 25-18 when Ragon hammered down the final spike.
Set 2 followed a similar script. Brobbey again sparked the Wildcats with an early ace, and Henry van Ginkel added one as Saint Ignatius built a 7-2 advantage. Midway through the set, Ragon struck again from the service line to make it 17-8, part of a dominant night from the outside hitter. Saint Ignatius finished the set 25-18 and continued to show the kind of balance that made the offense difficult to slow. Brobbey directed that attack with 34 assists, four aces and five digs, helping the Wildcats hit an impressive .418 as a team.
Ragon was the headliner offensively and from the end line. The senior outside hitter piled up 12 kills with a .579 hitting efficiency, six aces, four digs, two blocks and two assists. Schafer added 10 kills with a .353 efficiency, plus an ace, two digs and a block, while Ethan Rossetti supplied eight kills on a .417 efficiency with two digs and a block. Together, that trio gave Saint Ignatius a steady stream of points and clean swings whenever momentum needed a push.
Jackson made its strongest run in the third set, trimming the margin and staying within reach into the middle stages. But Saint Ignatius answered again from the service line and at the net. Ragon delivered another ace to help the Wildcats to an 11-7 edge, then Brobbey fired an ace later to extend the cushion to 20-13. When Jackson tried one last push late, Schafer ended it decisively, powering home the final spike for a 25-21 set win and the match-clinching point.
It was the kind of complete performance that gives the Wildcats plenty to celebrate, aggressive from the line, efficient in system and firm defensively when rallies tightened. On a night when Saint Ignatius controlled the match with serving pressure and attacking production, the final swing fittingly belonged to Schafer, sealing another straight-set win over Jackson and sending the Wildcats home with momentum.
Next up is New Albany at home on Saturday, at 2 PM.
