Saint Ignatius opened the latest Holy War with authority Friday night, sweeping St. Edward 3-0 at Sullivan Gym by set scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-21. The Wildcats improved to 14-2 with a sharp, energized performance that featured an efficient offense, steady serving pressure and several timely finishes in the biggest moments.

The Wildcats set the tone early and never let it drift. Jack Ragon sparked the first set with an ace that put Saint Ignatius ahead 3-2, and Gavin Schafer later stretched the margin with a kill that made it 18-11. When St. Edward tried to stay within reach, Saint Ignatius answered again at the net, this time with Ethan Rossetti closing the opener on a block for the 25-18 win. That sequence captured the match well, the Wildcats were aggressive from the service line, disciplined in transition and tough to solve at the tape.

The second set was the Wildcats' cleanest stretch of the night. Henry van Ginkel delivered an early ace for a 5-2 edge, Ragon added another ace to build the lead to 14-7, and Saint Ignatius kept the pressure on behind a balanced attack. Schafer hammered home the final point of the set for a 25-13 decision, part of a standout night in which the opposite finished with 16 kills on a .444 hitting efficiency, plus two aces, six digs and a block. Saint Ignatius' offense as a whole was excellent, piling up 43 kills while hitting .366.

St. Edward made the third set more competitive, but the Wildcats had the right answer when the margin tightened. Ragon opened another early lead with an ace at 3-1, then Schafer delivered a late ace that pushed Saint Ignatius in front 19-17. From there, the Wildcats stayed composed through the final rallies, and Schafer put away the match-ending kill at 25-21. It was a fitting finish for an attack leader who repeatedly found points at the most important times.

Ragon turned in an all-around effort for Saint Ignatius, finishing with 13 kills, a .308 hitting efficiency, three aces, 14 digs, four blocks and an assist. Andrew Brobbey directed the offense throughout the sweep, handing out 38 assists while adding five digs and a block. His work helped keep the Wildcats in rhythm from set to set, with hitters attacking confidently and efficiently against a rival that entered the night 10-4.

In a rivalry match that always carries extra emotion, Saint Ignatius looked poised and connected from the opening serve to the final swing. The Wildcats finished with 75 total points, 43 kills, eight aces and eight blocks in the straight-set victory, and the final image was the strongest one of the night, Schafer rising for the kill that sealed the sweep and sent Sullivan Gym into celebration.
