Saint Ignatius, 19-2 and #1 ranked team in Ohio, rolled to a 3-0 boys volleyball victory over Stow-Munroe Falls on Tuesday night, winning 25-11, 25-18, 25-11 at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. The Wildcats controlled the match from the opening set and put together the kind of clean, well-executed performance that showed both their firepower and their depth.
Saint Ignatius finished with 40 kills, six aces and six blocks while piling up 75 total points in the sweep. The Wildcats grabbed momentum early in the first set and never let it go. Gavin Schafer helped spark one decisive run with an ace that pushed the lead to 17-9, and Ethan Rossetti followed later with an ace that made it 20-10. Saint Ignatius closed the opener at 25-11, setting the tone for the rest of the night.
The second set brought Stow-Munroe Falls' strongest push, but the Wildcats answered each time. Schafer delivered another ace to help open a 7-3 advantage, and Jack Ragon added a late ace at 20-10 as Saint Ignatius tightened its grip. The set ended at 25-18 on a Schafer kill, part of an efficient all-around night from the outside hitter. The Wildcats played a clean game throughout, and that steady execution showed in long stretches where serve pressure and efficient swings kept Stow-Munroe Falls from building any sustained run.
Ragon turned in one of the top performances of the night. The senior finished with 15 kills, a .632 hitting efficiency, one ace, two digs, one block and seven perfect serve receives. Ragon was as a major factor in key moments, including an ace that pushed the Wildcats ahead 20-10 late in the third set. He was a steady presence from start to finish, producing points without many wasted swings and helping Saint Ignatius stay in system.
Schafer was equally sharp. The senior posted nine kills with an outstanding .818 hitting efficiency, along with two aces, five digs and three blocks. Match highlights showed him at the center of several momentum plays, including the first-set ace during a run, another ace early in the second set, and the kill that ended Set 2. Carson Nekic added three kills with a .600 efficiency and two blocks, giving the Wildcats more production at the net and helping reinforce a defense that consistently slowed the home side's attack.
The final set looked much like the first. Henry van Ginkel delivered an early ace to build a 7-2 edge, Ragon added another momentum-serving kill at 20-10, and Saint Ignatius closed the match on a kill from Frank Jacono IV for the 25-11 finish. Just as important for the Wildcats, bench players were able to get on the floor and find success, a fitting detail in a night that reflected strong team balance as much as the sweep itself.
Next up is Senior night on Thursday, 4/30 with festivities starting around 6:30.
